In class today we did a variety of things, depending what rolls we took on. I had and editing roll for our video about stories which will be published tomorrow in school. I have realized that the last day of putting things together is a very chaotic day, everyone is filming last minute clips which we have missed, we are giving feedback to our peers on the different clips giving ideas on how to improve it. Also since the articles for The Break are al so due today before 3:00, the editors have been working on putting them on the website. The craziness of today I think has motivated everyone to work harder, I have been much more concentrated today than any other day, working on editing the middle part of the film which is about good stories on campus. I have learned that the process of editing may look easy if you are someone who is not actually doing it. I got the chance to experience editing and now I know that it is a very hard thing to do. You have to keep in mind how things mend together, if it is intriguing to watch and if it looks good in general and looks like it will all flow together. The hardest part for me today was finding videos of different grade levels, we found videos of boys inter mural soccer matches and clips from the icc freshman cheer of my grade. But what I did instead, was put in pictures of students in other grades. I think I have met my goal in making this clip with a lot of action, and experiences that school has gone through in the past few years.

Getting a news letter published every week is not a simple thing. There is a lot that goes on before it being published. Alex came over to class today and taught us how to organize our news letters because none of us had done so yet. She answered all our questions so we could publish all our articles onto The Break before 3:00pm. When I was working on writing my article, I realized I didn't know how to put it into the format. In class today I got to learn how to organize my article, also I learned techniques to even capture the audience through how the article looks, for example the different paragraphs and smaller ones make the article more engaging because it doesn't seem so long to read making the audience more intregued. Learning this formatting of the articles that go on the break today, will help me in my future articles, making them easier to write. There is always many rough rafts before coming up with a final product. What we did today in class was exactly that. The creative process of creating a product such as Instagram pages, crossword puzzles, a song and even QR codes have the same basic process to follow. There are five main parts to the process: coming up with ideas, sharing ideas, creating a prototype for the public, get constructive feedback and finally use the feedback given to improve the product. Creating an actual product is not a simple process. In class today we got to experience the entire process, the group I was in created an Instagram page to create new photo challenges for the FDR community to participate in. We made a prototype and got feedback from our peers telling us what they liked about the product, and what could be improved to make it better. After getting that we brainstormed, we re-thought out our ideas and brought in the ideas into another prototype which we told the class about right after. These skills are used in all life moments, you have to do things one step at a time so that it can be done correctly. A learning experience that was significant to me and that has stuck with me was when I learned about driving. I learned about a year and a half ago, where I went to permit classes so I could receive my driving permit. I thought this was a significant learning experience for me because before this time in my life I had always been driven around to places, and I had to revolve my schedual around others. Learning to drive meant that I could eventually drive to places with out having to wait on my brother or mother to take me to where I wanted to go. When I first started my drivers ed class in Dallas, I did not know anyone in the class, everyone had gone with a friend to learn how to drive, so I was forced to socialize with others, but I am happy I was kind of forced to do so because it was an awesome experience. In this class I learned so many things like learning to socialize with those who I don't know. Things aren't always as simple as they seem to be, I learned that while I was still in drivers ed.
Learning how to interview someone is a basic skill to learn while in high school, so that in the future years you have more practice with it and be an expert by the time you are in college.
In class today we learned all bout interviews and how to ask people questions to get answers we wanted. Now I know to make a question no longer than 10 words because if not it will seem like an interrogation, and that is not the message you want to send to the person being interviewed. You must make questions that flow with the conversation, making it seem natural and relevant to what you are interviewing them about. Today I also learned that many students at school are not interested in what you have to say once you say the word 'news' because all they think about is sources like El Comercio or BBC news etc. So we had to reformulate our questions so that they would make people realize that news is not just learning what is happening in the world, but also to the society around you; Facebook is a source of news and so is twitter, instagram, tumblr or youtube. After receiving information and data, we could analyze the data and there i learned that we must narrow things down immediately so things are done productively, and keep things organized so you don't get confused along the way. Today has been a very successful day in the Innovation Academy classroom, and it has taught me many skills that I will use in my future, such and interview skills and organizational skills as well. When I hear the word money the first thing that comes to my mind is how much power money has to the world now-a-days. So many people live their life surrounded by money, thinking how they will make more and how they cant live without it. Money can buy as many objects in the world as you desire, but money can’t buy emotions or thoughts. Some may thing the more money you have the better in life you will be, but I believe that is not true, people with no money may be the happiest people on earth because they enjoy what they have to the fullest, and they work hard for what they have and are proud. Money can buy many things like a car, boat, a home, airplane or traveling but those are only a short time happiness.
Today was our first official day of the Innovation Academy.
We spent our day doing different things and learning more than I thought we would learn on our first day. We learned a lot about Purpose in life; whats the purpose of being in school, of learning, even what the purpose of the Innovation Academy is. In a TED talk given by Simon Sinek, he talked about the Golden Circle; which consists of three words: Why, How and What. Students who are Extrinsically motivated, have the mentality of looking at the How as their main goal in life; the How meaning their future, who they want to be and how they will be that person, what college they will attend and how they will achieve going to that college, how much money they will have through choosing a certain carrier, and how they will make sure that happens. That is not the point in life. Life was not created to worry about how you will get to the point where you want to be in life. Learning is a process which is open, expressions are free, mistakes are made, and paths are changed. A main thing in life which people learning at school normally don't focus on, is on the people. Learning in a classroom listening to the teacher teach you a subject, is in a way very individual, even though you may be surrounded by many others. You are learning for yourself and using that knowledge to benefit yourself and no one else. After discussions in class I believe that success comes from sharing with the people, making objectives be for the people, not for ourselves. While we do it for others, it makes us do things better, because we have a purpose of doing it. That makes me come to another point, you can't have a successful school career without having a purpose on why you want to learn. With no purpose there is no motivation to learn. |
