For an entire semester, we worked on personal documentaries about any governmental/economical issue we desired to cover.
This project was all about the Peruvian government and how it works. Each of us had complete autonomy when it came to the subject or structure of the documentary. The only restrictions we had were that the documentary once filmed, scripted and edited, had to be no less than 15 minutes, but no more than 30 and had to be about a specific topic on the Peruvian government and economy.
This project was one of the most challenging yet rewarding experiences. I learned to push myself through hard times of editing and filming, opening up to new experiences, the importance of going through with purpose and the general challenges that come along with film making. I created my documentary alongside a classmate, we divided the work up evenly while we were filming, editing and script writing. It was a challenge, but the experience was one that I will cary with me forever, I never thought I would ever get the chance to say that "I created a documentary on the wealth gap in Perú," and I must admit that I am extremely proud of myself for going through with it.
No, our documentary is not perfect, and there are still things I wish we had the time to go back to re-film and re-edit, but even so, the documentary we have created is one that gets our message across clearly and effectively.
