Taking a b
last into the pa stWhat better way to head straight into our future than taking a step back, relax, take a breath and have a good look of where we stand. Going at full blow towards your goals can sometimes make you blindsided to what you really should be paying attention to such as your purpose. As Simon Sinek mentioned in one of his TED talks: the more your company grows, the more the work is about the money instead of the purpose. If you are working so hard to create a great, successful company, sometimes we can loose sight of what truly matters, what got the company started in the first place: the vision and purpose.
This is what our company was doing. A few months back, we looked at the Business Model Canvas "[which] allows you to describe, design, challenge, invent, and pivot your business model." (Strategyzer). This canvas helped us narrow down our view on our company, BlendZ, and gave us a clear purpose and structure to organise ourselves. Although we have swerved off the road for a while from the business model canvas, we have maintained our roles in trying to accomplish our set goals we had for each section in the canvas. As I mentioned before, we looked into this Business Model Canvas quite a while ago, which is why I'm saying it's good to take it back to the past in order to move forward. I say this because if we wouldn't have gone back to this canvas, we wouldn't have organized our thoughts about the company and come to some set new details that were previously questions left unanswered. Stopping, taking a break, taking a look around and pivoting some areas about the company is the normal for its growth and improvement for future benefits; if we didn't have moments like these, we wouldn't get the chance to realise what we are doing right, what we are doing wrong or what we just aren't doing at all.
Going head into the future is the ambition we should have, but we shouldn't think that stopping to take a "break" or stop point is a set back to our advancement. We get so caught up in what we are doing in the moment that will benefit us in the future, that we tend to forget what we did in the past to help us in the present. All those calendars, checklists, notes, questions, charts you made a few months back are worth looking back to because you didn't create them for no reason. They all have meaning and whether or not those meanings have changed, they are worth the time to look back too. The past can bring up things you never would have imagined; bringing up the past can help you get back on track, to see your true purpose once again and create a better vision than what you initially had set.
BlendZ took a step back, and now that we have, we are once again back on track and ready to go full speed. We have updated our Business Model Canvas, and are ready to take on the new challenges faced in our direction.
