How many times have you wanted to do something, but were in a position that didn't allowed you to do it.
Being caught between wanting something to happen and it actually happen should be up for you to decide, but sadly, that's not the case. Having the ability to actually DO things and take ACTION is a complete privilege that not everyone has.
and unfortunately, that barrier in many cases is money.

Saturday the 14th wasn't just any other Saturday; it was the beginning of a life time of opportunities, the day Habla Roosevelt--the fund we created with BlendZ--got its kick start.

Students started rolling in by 8:30, and what a turnout it was, nearly everyone who signed up was excited and eager to learn. English is not an easy language to learn, but there is no holding back at Habla Roosevelt. We want our workers children to succeed and have those opportunities in life they can't get themselves, we want there to be less barriers between societies and allow others to reach their full potentials. Our solution to that was by teaching them english--one of our strengths at FDR.
We took all opportunities we had to teach them the basics, and to really teach them the importance of practice. You can only improve upon something if you really dedicate yourself into believing you can achieve it, and by doing it over and over again. While learning new languages, it is crucial to practice it both written and most importantly, verbally.
The kids ranged from 6 - 16 years old, somewhat a broad age-group in my opinion to be learning in one big group. I feel that learning happens best and most productively when you work with others that are at your same level of understanding. In future Habla Roosevelt days, these students will be split up into smaller groups with volunteers who will teach them english through fun ways such as song lyrics, interests, games, etc. But, I also believe that it is hard to teach groups that are a mixture of age levels due to concentration limits and the ability of dedication--it varies from age to age. That, we will figure out over time, what we know for now is that the students are ENGAGED and are MOTIVATED to learn english from us, they feel comfortable to ask questions and LEARN.
It's incredible how much of an impact we can have on a society. BlendZ has forever left a mark at FDR, we are the first student led business on campus as well as the founders of Habla Roosevelt--we are working to give others the opportunities to learn what they can't on their own. BlendZ has given the school campus more than just delicious smoothies, we are giving back to those who help us achieve, the workers.
