What would a business be if it didn't go through moments of stress where people are scrambling around getting things done as fast and efficiently as possible. Those HECTIC moments are the ones where we have to calm down and take a while to get organized and head back at it with a more optimistic view.
It's easy to get carried away by the overwhelming environment around you. But with the right planing, it's effortless to remain on track and be at your highest productivity level to get things done.
For the first weeks at BlendZ we were very distant from each other. Communication between roles was continuing to fail, it felt as though boundaries were set up for each group where it was wrong to step out of the boundary. Communication is vital for growth and success, if groups are failing to communicate, then the business will fall apart in just a matter of time.
After a long class discussion as to where we stand at BlendZ, we talked about how working through departments (human recourses, marketing, product development, finance and CEO's) was breaking us apart. Within each section, communication was extremely effective, but once it meant communicating with the other groups, words and information were lost.
We've been reading The Lean Startup by Eric Ries; it's a book on how startups go through pivots--a change in direction. We found ourselves stuck, not using our recourse or time wisely or as productively as we could have. That is why BlendZ pivoted.

"Companies that cannot bring themselves to pivot to a new direction on the basis of feedback from the marketplace can get stuck in the land of the living dead, neither growing enough nor dying..."
Starting off on a new foot didn't seem like a bad idea. We all gathered and decided that organizing ourselves through projects or tasks that needed to be completed was more efficient. that way, everyone had a task to do, and no one had less work to do than any others. Workloads were lifted off for the marketing team, as more people pitched in, making the job easier for everyone. We as a class have been using Asana to get organized, there it's easy to see who is in charge of the different tasks, and it's an easy form of communication between us all. Now that we pivoted, and changed the way we work, it has helped us so much more as a company, we are all working together to get everything done on time as well as getting it all done well with high |
quality. Yes, there will still be moments of a HECTIC environment, but at least we will be communicating, organized and hectic instead of just hectic all over the place.
This isn't the only pivot we've made at BlendZ, we are constantly changing things, as minimal as they may seem, it makes a difference. Every change counts, that's why every change we make, we think through. One wrong pivot can take us down, but thinking everything through, being cautious, caring, outgoing, and faithful, our changes will be in our favor, making us grow as a business.
