Work to please yourself, then worry about pleasing others
Bliss always works to please himself, he draws what makes him laugh, later he will show it to his friends to see if they feel the same way. He told us it is one of the most important things in life. What you do must always be what you like, what you enjoy, what you believe. If it isn't, then there is no reason why you should remain working on it.
Art is an escape, it enhances one's creativity
No matter what we do in life, wether its being a student, working with a company or working at home, more creativity is needed in our minds. Bliss suggested to draw, every once in a while. It allows your mind to break free, escape, go wild, which everyone should experience as much as possible. Sometimes we get so lost in working in closed boxes, surrounded by limits and rules; its not healthy to live life with no creativity, and the simplest way to get creative, is draw!
There definitely are up's and down's to every carrier, but if you truly love it, you won't ever quit
Harry Bliss has had many of his cartoons published un newspapers all around the world, he has illustrated books and written some himself. Also he is an illustrated for the cover of the New Yorker. Being an artist he makes thousands of drawings a year, but of course, not all can be published. 1 out of his 10 submissions could be chosen to be on the cover of the New Yorker, yet he continues to submit his drawings every month. He doesn't let failure keep him away from his passion.
Money is not of a concern to him, he works because he loves to draw, not because of the money that he makes.
Working for the money is probably the worst thing you could probably do, you will never enjoy waking up and going to work. So I'm taking it from Harry Bliss and I'm going to make sure that what I do in life I love. That way, I won't ever regret what I do in life, I will always be doing what catches my attention.
Harry Bliss is an incredibly talented artist, he drew for us on the whiteboard, it was cool to see how quickly he put together and idea and started to create!
