Today was the first day of which we, the students in the Innovation Academy, were able to have a full day doing activities with the group.
Since there are 15 students in the Innovation Academy, we were split in three groups to come up with fun and educational activities we could do around Lima. The following three activities took place; running 5k to raise awareness of children with down syndrome, bicycling around Barranco going to the MAC museum and lastly we went to Mamacona to horseback ride.
Each activity we did was an opportunity to learn something in a fun way, to see and experience new things we haven't done before. The first activity we went to today was the 5k run to raise awareness of children with down syndrome, where I experienced being part of something to help those with down syndrome, and seeing how people in Perú are active and also want to help those in need. It was an experience which made us exhausted but made us more aware and feel very good once finishing the run, it was great to be part of it this year. The second activity we had today was bicycling around Barranco and visiting the MAC museum. There we got to see different types of art, not just paintings, we saw a sculpture, amazing pictures taken by Scarlett Hooft Graafland, the back door of a truck painted along with many other types of art. Before getting to the museum, we rented bikes and rode them all around the malecón in Barranco. It was a very cool experience to see that part of Lima on a bike, it is a different experience than what you would have in a car passing though the same area. The last activity we had was going to Mamacona to have lunch, where we eat some Peruvian plates such as tequeños, anticuchos, chicken and for desert picarones. After that we got to go up a mountain from which the Islas de Pachacamac are visible, soon after we headed down the mountain to ride some horses, in Mamacona we experienced peruvian culture through the food, the location and by riding the horses.
All three of these activities were fun and educational, we learned new things as well as had new experiences.
