r + t (visit their facebook page!)
An incredible first day as an intern at r + t.
Visiting clients homes and figuring out a general plan for the event. Having meetings with clients and producers for large events coming up. Meeting up with clients to talk about the details of the event. These are just some of the things that made up my crazy day at r + t. We met up with 4 customers, each was for different types of events. We went to San Isidro to plan an end of the year event for Pasifico, to Jockey's Jardín where a large event will take place, to Ate where we met with Backus to plan their event in Paracas and finally we visited a home in Surco to talk about a wedding which is in the process of being planned.
Even though today was hectic, I still learned a lot, more than I thought I would on the first day.
-There are two ways people approach r + t, some approach them with an event where only the tent is requested to be made. Meanwhile others approach them as full event planners, asking them to do everything: lighting, tent, tables, catering and music.
-Customers are all different, and how you relate and act with each customer varies. Some meetings may be more personal where you joke around and talk for half the time filling each other in. On the other hand, there are other customers who get straight to the point, they get right too it and are more specific with what they want.
-Past events are always being referred to as examples. Some ideas used in the past are repeated, yet they give a completely different look in each event.
-Being punctual is key. If one meeting gets caught behind schedule, it will mess your whole day up. All appointments will have to be pushed back and your day is made into a mess where you are in a hurry all day long. So in this business it's extremely important to be on time to everything, whether you're the planner or the client.
Starting something new is always a challenge, but I can already tell I will love waking up to go to this internship. It's an experience that I can learn from in so many ways. I find it to be a fun job so far; since it is all around the place it must never get boring, especially because the events are always changing and giving r + t different experiences and challenges every time.
